Linn Park is a fabulous "green space". The Daffodils come out once the Snowdrops have shown themselves and then the Bluebells which this year have not been submerged by grass. Spring is here . . . the weather gets warmer and sunnier . . . and the ducks and drakes do what they do at this time of the year and hey presto Ducklings.

Just to let you know about this web site:

It is run by a group of retirees some in their late seventies, and others who have contributed the Botany and History.
There are a plethora of other people who have contributed photographs, and other useful information such as old pamphlets and articles.
The Linn Park Gentlemen's Walking Club is just a group of people who all met whilst out walking - in Linn Park of course.
They are not associated with any council, or any sponsored group, or . . . it is just "we ourselves and that's it".

The species of birds identified using Merlin [in or beside Linn Park except as noted] from 20th June 2025 is as follows:
Note: a "✓" indicates the bird is listed in the "Wild Birds" page and a "✓" in the "River Birds" page, viz there is a photograph taken in Linn Park. So lots of species yet to be photographed, and a few still to be identified using Merlin - and added to the Life List.

Linn Park Nature Trail Guide Book

Introduction

In the text, there are many questions: IF you know the answers, please let us know - post the answer on the Linn Park facebook page.

We were given this lovely booklet, which dates from the 1960's, by Stuart Nisbet. It needs a bit of updating for the following reasons.

The Trail Posts were taken over by STAG, and renumbered.
The Mansion House is no longer home to the Park Rangers and their Information Centre
Much of the park has now been effectively blocked off by fencing or undergrowth - especially on the river banks.

Petition to reverse the closure of the Path below the Castle

The Petition

As a consequence of the almost universal common sense conclusion, a long term park user [that's forty years or more] raised a petition. You can read it here: https://www.change.org/p/reopening-of-entrance-to-linn-park-at-snuffmill-bridge.

By the 25th May 2022, just over 850 people had signed it. As of the 12th of August this had passed the magic one thousand and risen to 1,040 signatures. As at the 4th October 2023 it had reached 1,265. Keeping up the chat has resulted at 10th July 2024 in 1482 signatures. At 14th February 2026, we keep getting more support: Now at 1,560.
