About the management of Linn Park by Glasgow's Parks Department

Objective

As far as anyone can see there the department has the following objectives:

To do as little routine maintenance work as possible, and then only by machine.
To carry out any major works but only on the basis of grants.
To be seen to be doing a fantastic job - by fraudulently applying for a "Green Flag" award, this bringing to whole Green Flag Awards into serious disrepute.

Operations

Works by the Parks Department is run by "Job Ticket" software.

The software is deficient: tasks are very often improperly specified, resulting in useless work being carried out: like painting bench's - meaning don't take the old flaking paint off, just slap black paint over everything - but don't paint underneath, or between the wooden slats... as nauseam.

Maintenance

We guess that there are too many syllables in this word for comprehension by senior management.

Planning

A figment of someone's imagination. The published plan bears no relationship to reality.

Fencing Works

Three types of fencing - all dangerous one way or another.

The "Green Fence". In fact it is the same as is used at Faslane
The wooden fencing erected south of Millholm Road - untreated and rots within months
The galvanised fencing on the south side of the river. One rail too high makes it dangerous to fall off.

Building New Paths

Pity they never installed the drainage properly

Pity the forgot to make arrangements to shed the surface water which falls onto the surface of the path - only when it rains.

Tarmac'ing paths to make them dangerous.

The beach has gone from a safe walking environment [whin on type on] to a dangerous one - slapping a layer of tarmac on top of the whin surface.
