The Petition
As a consequence of the almost universal common sense conclusion, a long term park user [that's forty years or more] raised a petition. You can read it here: https://www.change.org/p/reopening-of-entrance-to-linn-park-at-snuffmill-bridge.
By the 25th May 2022, just over 850 people had signed it. As of the 12th of August this had passed the magic one thousand and risen to 1,040 signatures. As at the 4th October 2023 it had reached 1,265. Keeping up the chat has resulted at 10th July 2024 in 1482 signatures. At 14th February 2026, we keep getting more support: Now at 1,560.

Despite being advised in January 2021 that the path will be opened - NOTHING HAS HAPPENED in the LAST FIVE YEARS.

News at February 2025: Following the interest of our MP, we heard noothing. Sadly, we had a very negative response, to which we responded as follows:

The simple fact is that the only works required are as follows:
a) Insert key into padlock on gate, unlock, and remove, so opening the gate at the foot of the incline below the Seil Drive entrance.
b) Break the three remaining welds [of six] where extra bars were inserted on Greenock Avenue.
However as has been noted by the now retired General Secretary of COSLA:
Having done something that may well be considered by most people to be both stupid and unnecessary and at not inconsiderable expense, the Council must now be seen to spend even more money to demonstrate that their previous actions were actually necessary.
Noted that the only thing to have fallen down in the last three years are some leaves.
The remains of the Castle [probably also demolished unnecessarily] and the rock on which it has sat for over half a millennia remains unmoved. [See https://tdocplus.co.uk/.../cathcart-castle-demolition-the...]
It is time that common sense be returned to local government, and a simple admission of the making of made a knee-jerk reaction be admitted, resulting in the denial of access, which continues to cause unnecessary distress to many of the local inhabitants. Noted that so far only one person has been killed.
One might ask why the local electorate do not bother to vote ???? The answer is obvious. The winning candidate only achieved 10% of the votes, and has failed to achieve anything.
One might ask how much more "liaising and working together" remains to be done ? So far absolutely NOTHING has been achieved apart of course wasting money that would have been better spent on potholes - Old Castle Road past the castle is a prime example of such waste.
I am sure that the various worthies have expended a huge amount of hot air debating a subject they are simply not competent to debate. And one wonders why it takes eight years to build a single ferry, whereas a hugely complex vessel such as a destroyer can be turned out in a quarter of the time ????
And just for amusement, we made another comment on 17h February.
Vance said of Donald Trump’s re-election: “There is a new sheriff in town.” He said: “Democracy will not survive if their people’s concerns are deemed invalid or even worse not worth being considered.”
This applies perfectly to the NON-democratic failure of Glasgow City Council to open OUR path to OUR park.
News July 7th 2024: The Lady Chairman of Cathcart Community Council recently advised as follows:
Getting the path reopened is one of our top priorities, although it actually falls into the area of Simshill and Old Cathcart Community Council: with your permission, I will forward your email to them.
The group Friends of Linn Park is leading on this and I am delighted to say they are making great progress. The local Area Partnership, run by the council, has agreed to fund half of the costs of repair (which are over £200k) and Friends of Linn Park has made a successful application to another charity for the remaining funding.
We await further news, but hopefully it will not be too many more months before we get access to the path again.
How an SNP dominated Glasgow City Council can waste about a quarter of a million pounds which they say don't have beats common sense . . . but hey this is all about politics and so no more to be said.
